Author Interview: J. A. Higgins

J A Higgins is a NHS facilitator working in Wiltshire, England who has always been fascinated by history and the unexplained.

Use three to five words to describe yourself.

A curious introvert.

Can you give us a little background on your debut?

FINDING RUBY: a Nell Montague Mystery will be the first in a series which explores how horrors from the past are still very relevant today. Recent book award winner of Page Turner Awards, the author is currently writing the sequel which will be a spooky Christmas thriller.

Can you give us any insight into your planning and writing process?

I work full time as an audit facilitator but in total contrast my novel writing process is chaotic. I start with a basic plan, write scenes or dialogue as the come to me, and then try to stitch them together in order, like a patchwork quilt.

Silence or music or other when writing/editing?

I have to write to music, otherwise I can’t wake up that part of my brain which creates.

You can erase one book or series from your mind entirely so that you can read it again for the first time, which do you erase?

Probably the Harry Potter series.

Who are some of your favourite authors/books?

Val McDermid

Who are your favourite book characters?

Too many to count

Do you have any favourite magic systems?

I don’t think so.

You can bring one world from a book or series to life and live there, which world do you choose

I want to visit Hogwarts.

What book or series would you love to see on the big screen?

In the 1970s there was a children’s tv series called COME BACK LUCY. It was haunting and one of the reasons I wanted to be a writer.

You can have one superpower, what is it?

Flight

You have the ability to morph into any real creature. Which creature do you choose?

I would love to fly so any bird.

You can go back in time and live a different period of history, when do you choose?

Tudor

You can meet any five people in the world, who would you choose?

Anthony Hopkins, Prince William, the swimmer Ellie Simmons, Ed Sheeran and so many others
