Interview

1. Use three to five words to describe yourself.

1. Kind 2. Movie Nerd 3. Funny 4. Friendly 5. The Office fanatic.

2. Can you give us a little background on your upcoming/existing/recently release book/series?

Summer of ’77 is about a young boy named Albert, who is grieving the death of his mom. When he moves from Manhattan to Maine with his dad, he meets and befriends an eccentric but kind hearted girl named Robin, who coaxes him out of his shell.

3. Can you give us any insight into your planning and writing process?

I like to do a rough outline and breakdown the characters and settings. I also like to write down synopses of certain scenes and envision how I want them to go before I write them out.

4. Silence or music or other when writing/editing?

I love Ambient Sound Mixer! It’s a great website with tons of sounds and music of all kinds. I’ve been recently listening to the sounds of an autumn day which is really calming and helps me focus on the story.

5. Based on your experience, can you offer a piece of advice to budding authors?

Always write what you love and want, and not because it’s “trending” or “in”. Write the book you’ve always wanted to read.

6. You can erase one book or series from your mind entirely so that you can read it again for the first time, which do you erase?

This is such a good question! I wish I could go back and read The Stolen Marriage by Diane Chamberlain for the first time again. It completely blew me away. It was so heartbreaking, raw, and emotional.

7. Who are some of your favourite authors/books?

I love Diane Chamberlain, Lauren K. Denton, Renée Rosen, and Ruth Ware to name a few.

8. Who are your favourite book characters?

Anne Shirley all the way! I grew up reading Anne of Green Gables. She’s such a great character. I love that she has flaws and grows throughout the series.

9. Do you have any favourite magic systems?

I really like stories that feature witches or witchcraft.

10. You can bring one world from a book or series to life and live there, which world do you choose?

I’d love to live in the land of Oz and hang out with Dorothy and her friends. I’d just have to steer clear of the Wicked Witch of the West, though! Lol.

11. What book or series would you love to see on the big screen?

I think Windy City Blues by Renée Rosen would make a great film. It’s set between the 1940s-1960s and focuses on an interracial couple in the music business. It was phenomenal.

12. You can collaborate with one other author, who do you choose?

Again, awesome question! I’d love to collaborate with Diane Chamberlain. She’s such an incredible writer, and I would love to learn more about her writing process. She’s someone I admire so much.

13. Have any cultures/civilisations inspired your writing?

I’ve done a lot of research on past time periods for my historical fiction work. I’ve learned a lot of different parts of the country and how they lived and interacted with one another.

14. What is your favourite mythical creature?

Unicorns

15. What is your favourite mythical race?

Mermaids

16. You can have one superpower, what is it?

I think it would be a lot of fun to have telekinesis.

17. You have the ability to morph into any real creature. Which creature do you choose?

A cat, because I would get to nap for half of the day haha.

18. You can go back in time and live a different period of history, when do you choose

I’d love to visit the 1950s. It’s one of my favorite time periods. I love the movies, music, and fashion of that time.

19. You can meet any five people in the world, who would you choose?

1. Dolly Parton 2. Diane Chamberlain 3. Tom Hanks 4. Renée Rosen 5. Betty White

20. Would you rather:

  • ride a dragon or fly a spaceship?
    • Fly in a spaceship!
  • have the ability to fly or be indestructible?
    • Be indestructible.
  • be an elf or an orc?
    • An elf.
  • have the ability to travel to mythical worlds, from your favourite books, or the ability to travel faster than light and visit planets and solar systems in this world?
    • I think it would be fun to visit mythical worlds from books.
  • face one orc or three goblins in battle?
    • I’d have to go with the goblins.
  • be an expert swordsman or archer?
    • Oooh, archer! I’ve always thought archery looked cool.
  • be able to wield elemental magic or raise and control the dead?
    • Wild elemental magic. There could be a lot at stake with raising the dead for me.
  • live in a city under the ocean or one floating in the clouds?
    • I’d love to live under the ocean!
  • be able to see the past or see the future?
    • Definitely the past. I love history, and I think visiting the past would be so fascinating.
